Emerging and mid-market companies can find themselves in a quarterly struggle to meet their financial challenges and achieve their investment and market share goals.

My work with clients to meet these challenges focuses on helping them with:

  • Financial Management – KPI's, Operational Monitoring & Support
  • Private & Public Accounting Operations & Reporting
  • Debt and Equity Transaction Preparation & Execution
  • Strategic Planning & Implementation
  • Profit and Cash Flow Improvement Initiatives
  • Investor Relations & Communications
  • Management of Treasury, I.T. and Issue Resolution Processes

I have over 25 years of financial leadership experience for private operating companies, early-stage enterprises, and Fortune 1000 public companies across a range of industries, including manufacturing and distribution, real estate development, construction and operations; health insurance; technology; and financial services. I have led or personally delivered the following:

  • Sourcing and closing mortgage and asset-backed loans to replace bank facility that were no longer in covenant compliance due to adverse industry conditions
  • A successful $150 million NYSE IPO of a nationally prominent home builder and developer followed by secondary share offerings that accomplished profitable exits for venture capital investors
  • Design and implementation of an independent finance and accounting function for Florida not-for-profit Medicaid plan that previously outsourced administrative functions
  • Raising $3 billion of public and private debt and equity for leading home builder and developer
  • SEC compliance and reporting -- including restatement of past public financial statements and filing of a Form S-1 registration statement for a planned NASDAQ IPO of a biotechnology company
  • The accounting, financial, investor relations, corporate and business development initiatives of a newly public health insurance company; improving financial planning and analysis, resolving control weaknesses and driving growth through corporate acquisitions
  • The selling process for a not-for-profit health plan -- selecting a Fortune 500 buyer and closing the deal -- resulting in a very favorable realization of value

My financial and operational experience is broad, and I enjoy helping management evaluate their business' strategic position and improving their business positioning to attain sustainable growth in earnings and cash flows. My expertise includes:

  • Development of budgets, forecasts and contingency projections
  • Accounting systems and policies, including monthly closing time reduction
  • Profit enhancement and process improvement studies
  • Debt and equity sourcing, proactive investor relations
  • Business or strategic planning and help with plan implementation
  • Conversion to GAAP compliant financial reporting (from cash or tax methods)
  • Design and implementation of internal controls that fit the company size
  • M&A support including due diligence and exit planning and preparations

I joined the Florida CFO Group in 2017 with over 25 years of experience in management and financial leadership as a CFO, CEO, strategic consultant, and controller. "Jim was diligent, insightful and supportive throughout a process that after several months led to a decision to seek a buyer for the Company. Jim played a 'quarterback' role in the sale process, including building the virtual data room, working closely with the bidders and the ultimate buyer, while providing information to transaction counsel and the Company Board in order to complete the transaction." "Jim and I worked together for more than a year at World Product Solutions in St. Petersburg, as part of the Executive and Strategy Team, directly reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors. During our tenure there, Jim exemplified superior professional competence in all areas of his assigned duties and other roles he stepped up as our business challenges developed. I consider him as a truly ‘proactive’ CFO. His financial forecasting abilities together with keen issue-spotting and correct analyses enabled our company to avert many potential impediments to our company transition which was accomplished efficiently and effectively. Jim was highly regarded by our private equity company, all of our C-level executives, and his many direct-reports. Jim also contributed his time and considerable expertise to develop the professional competencies of his key team members, ultimately resulting in meaningful promotions for several of those he trained. It was a privilege to serve with Jim on our Strategy Team. His experience, business acumen and unimpeachable character made him the most trusted advisor on our team, in my opinion. Even though we no longer share employment at WPS, I still consult with him on a regular basis and I unreservedly recommend Jim to other clients, customers and companies with which I am associated."
